With almost a decade of video production experience, we’re ready to tell your story!
NorthLight Film Co. was started by Derik Keeslar, a long time cinematographer and award winning film producer! Growing up in Michigan, he moved to Tennessee for 7 years, working for a video production company and then an equipment rental house. Now that he’s back in the great state of Michigan, he wanted to bring his passion for storytelling here.
Our Core Values
- ALWAYS IMPROVING – Our biggest priority that we bring our clients is being the absolute best at what we do. This is a tall order, but by taking the time to research new techniques, new industry norms, and trends combined with humility, knowing that we can always better ourselves, we aim to make each day a learning opportunity.
- TAKE A SECOND LOOK – It can be easy to get to the end of a long project and send it once you get to the end, but we believe in taking the extra time to make sure that what we aren’t just meeting the minimum expectations, but delivering the highest quality we can achieve
- PEOPLE MATTER – No matter client or employee, contractor or competitor, people matter. We vow to treat everyone with dignity and respect, not take advantage of clients, and give our employees everything we can
- NO AI EVER – We are a video company made up of people providing services to other people. We take pride in that and will never use generative AI to fill in what we missed in footage. Some AI tools are unavoidable in today’s age, but we vow to put humans first.
Derik Keeslar – Owner
Derik Keeslar is an award winning producer and sound designer hailing from West Michigan. He was always interested in cameras, lights, and anything technical. He took some film classes in High School and moved into college where he studied Audio Production & Music Composition, while also learning film on the side, producing some of the college’s promotional videos. He moved to Memphis, TN shortly after where he worked for one of the premier Video Production companies in Tennessee as well as one of the largest video equipment rental houses in the nation. In between he worked on films and documentaries in many roles, from cinematographer to editor and sound designer. He now owns NorthLight based in Ann Arbor and is working to make it the recognizable best in the market.
